PCSW recommends


· Maximum of two years' extension of probationary period before tenure review for faculty with significant caretaking responsibility for new children or seriously ill family members
· Option to reduce job responsibilities up to 50 percent for faculty with significant caretaking responsibility for new or seriously ill family members, with proportionate reduction in pay, for up to two years, and corresponding extension of tenure clock to account for reduced work time (two years at half time = one year on tenure clock)
· Combination of paid and unpaid leave for full-time faculty up to one year following birth or adoption of child

Faculty Council recommends

· Maximum of one-year extension of probationary period before tenure review for faculty with new or seriously ill children
· Option to temporarily reduce job responsibilities up to 50 percent for faculty with new or seriously ill children, with proportionate reduction in pay, for up to two years, and corresponding extension of tenure clock
· All schools and units of the university to develop and disseminate formal, written policies regarding maternity leave and leave for adoptive parents of very young children; all units encouraged to provide a semester's paid leave, plus additional unpaid leave up to one year; central administration to provide funds to help implement policy
