THE COMMON APPLICATION AND EMORY'S COMMON APPLICATION SUPPLEMENT

To Common Application applicants:

Thank you for your interest in Emory College. The Common Application is considered in the same light as our own application, but there are a few additional questions specific to Emory that we would like you to answer.
Please complete our Common Application Supplement, and return it to Emory as soon as possible. You may submit the supplement after an admission deadline, but note that the Common Application Supplement is required. Your application will not be complete and will not be reviewed until the supplement has been submitted.

Students may apply to both Oxford College and Emory College with one application and one $50 application fee by using the online Common Application only. However, due to processing constraints, the guidelines below must be followed to ensure your application is reviewed by both schools.

- The online application must be submitted for both schools at the same time.
- Common Application only allows you to submit an online application once.
- If you are applying to both Emory College and Oxford College and the deadline dates are different, the earlier deadline date will apply to both divisions.
- If you originally apply to only Oxford College or Emory College and later decide to submit an application to the other, you will not be able to take advantage of the one application/one application fee. Instead, you will need to submit a paper application to the other school and pay an additional application fee.
- The Common Application Supplement allows you to select an admission plan for Oxford College, Emory College or both.
- Supporting documents, such as the high school transcript, SAT/ACT scores, etc., must be submitted to each school separately.
- Students who apply to both Oxford College and Emory College will have their application reviewed independently and will receive an independent decision from each school.

Emory will likely receive around 15,000 applications this year; there are many questions my colleagues and I will ask repeatedly while reviewing your file. Why should we choose to admit you? You have more than 3,000 accredited colleges and universities from which to choose; why have you chosen to apply to Emory? We find answers to these questions from the information you submit to us. We look for future biochemists who will markedly alter cancer research, novelists who will produce groundbreaking works, diplomats who will address global inequalities, and musicians who will bridge gaps between the natural sciences and humanities; we want 1,255 pioneers—people who will change Emory and the world. What is more, we look for people excited about Emory and eager to become a part of this dynamic community. We carefully note demonstrated interest during the admission process and expect candidates to have done their homework on us: have you met us at a college fair, ordered the Emory Video Visit, attended an information session, or perhaps visited campus? Most importantly, have you clearly and specifically articulated why Emory is a good match for you?

We will never get to know you as well as we would like—despite the grades, despite the tests, despite the essays, despite all of the paper and electronic blips that the application will entail. Hopefully, though, we will catch a genuine glimpse of you. Hopefully, your words, thoughts, and interests will transform the two-dimensional paper into a textured, three-dimensional portrait of yourself. Be honest, be yourself, and enjoy this time to reflect.

Best wishes,

Jean Jordan
Dean of Admission
