Q & A for Parents

Q: When is Emory Family Weekend?
A: It’s October 19-21, 2007. Mailings are sent in August about this program. Family Weekend for 2008 has yet to be announced.

Q: Where will they be living, and will someone else make them clean their room?
A: No to the cleaning bit. Housing information is mailed to all accepted students in May, and students select their roommates and rooms during the summer months. Contact residential life with questions about housing. Visit their site or call 404.727.7631.

Q: Who will help them choose their classes?
A: Emory’s new student orientation and FAME (Freshmen Advising and Mentoring at Emory) both offer a great introduction to campus and our academic offerings. Students register for classes once they arrive on campus in August.

Q: How can they make it without us?
A: They’ll be fine, but we have a counseling center with a full range of services in case they need a little extra support. Read their brochure especially for parents.

Q: What about safety?
A: There won’t be a curfew, but we work hard to make Emory a safe environment. This link provides useful public safety information and contact numbers.

Q: What if they get sick?
A: They’re in the right place to get superior treatment from our student health service. This office has produced a parent’s guide to Emory’s student health services, accessible on their website.

A: Emory’s Career Center offers a vast amount of help to make sure this doesn’t happen.
