Post-Doctoral Opportunities in Motor Control

Postdoctoral Research Opportunites at Emory University
Funding is available to support a postdoctoral fellow for a little more than two years in the laboratory of Dr. Arthur English. The overall scope of the work intended is an analysis of the hormonal regulation of muscle fiber properties of the muscles of mastication of rabbits. The masseter muscle of male and female rabbits differ strikingly in their fiber type proportions in some neuromuscular compartments and not in others. The interaction of the nervous system with both androgenic hormones and neurotrophic molecules in regulating these differences in muscle fiber phenotype will be studied. Opportunites to learn and apply state-of-the-art anatomical and imaging methods will be present. One can anticipate significant interactions with a multi-disciplinary faculty in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, the Emroy Neuroscience Program, and two movement-related program Project Groups on campus. The favorable climate, the Centennial Olympic games, and the dynamic and modern nature of the city of Atlanta should also make this position attractive. The successful candidate should hold a PhD, DDS, and/or MD degree. Preference will be given to candidates with neuromuscular or endocrine backgrounds. Send letter of application, vita, and three letters of recommendation to Dr. A. W. English, Department of Anatomy & Cell Biology, Emory University, 1648 Pierce Drive, Atlanta, GA 30322; 404-727-6250. Emory University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
