First Round Bid Winners
Emory holds a unique record for qualifying teams for the NDT. Each year the top sixteen teams are selected by a panel of national coaches for at-large bids. No more than two teams per school can receive such bids. From 1996 through 2009, Emory received two first round at-large bids for a national debate record fourteen straight years. During that time, 31 Emory debaters have received this honor. The second longest streak is a five-year streak from one school; two other schools have four-year streaks. And, no other college or university has ever received two first round bids more than two years in a row.
