Melissa
Maxcy Wade
Melissa
is the Director of Forensics at Emory University, a title she has
held since 1972. She has overseen the growth of one of the most
dynamic debate programs in college today. Melissa has authored over
200 publications on debate pedagogy, arguments, and issues. A successful
Emory debater herself, Melissa has coached Emory to over twenty
national championships in policy debate. She has received every
major college coaching award. She is among the most respected professionals
in her field.

Bill
Newnam
Bill has been
the Associate Director of Forensics at Emory University since 1982.
Prior to 1982, Bill was an assistant coach at Wake Forest University
while earning his Masters Degree in Communication Studies. Bill
co-authored a three volume text on academic debate entitled Lines
of Argument along with several articles and convention papers
on academic debate. Bill has won several coaching awards while joining
Melissa in coaching Emory to over twenty national championships.

David
Heidt
David has been
an Assistant Debate Coach at Emory since 1996 (with the exception
of 2000-2001). As a college debater for Emory University, David
won the National Debate Tournament in 1996. David has also coached
both the 1998 CEDA National Champions and the 2000 NDT Champions
while working for Emory. Among the most respected argument coaches
in the nation, David has won judging awards at the CEDA National
tournament. He has taught at debate institutes at Emory, the University
of Michigan, and the University of Kentucky for the past six years.
David is the co-director of The Debate Center, a program which supports
all urban debate league students and teachers in Atlanta.
James
Roland
James has been
an Assistant Debate Coach at Emory University since 2000. James
coached at Southern Illinois University in 1999-2000 while completing
work towards a Masters of Speech Communication. His teams consistently
ranked among the top sixteen in the nation, which should come as
no surprise.As a nationally ranked college debater, James regularly
finished in the top sixteen, including reaching the quarterfinals
of the CEDA National Championship. He has taught at debate institutes
at Central Louisiana, Emory, Gonzaga, the University of the District
of Columbia, New York University, and Vermont. James is the co-director
of The Debate Center, a program which supports all urban debate
league students and teachers in Atlanta.
