The Wireless Revolution

There is an endless flow of technologies coming out of laboratories today that promise to revolutionize the way we connect devices. They all promise the holy grail of eliminating cable tethers or restrictions that limit Infrared connectivity to line of sight.

One such technology is Bluetooth

It promises to:

  Automate data capture and transfer
Enhance mobility and work performance
Lower cost of information collection
Eliminate cumbersome physical connections
Improve Productivity

Bluetooth is one of the key enabling technologies in the evolution of the Personal Area Network. It is the conduit or transport mechanism and connects device to device or to a full-fledged network. It is meant to support individuals in connecting to multiple devices within immediate proximity.

Driving Bluetooth ubiquity is the cost effectiveness (less than $5), low power consumption (thousandth of a watt) and small size (smaller than a matchstick).  These will be the impetus to create interconnectivity in and out of the home or office, likes of which were science fiction only a few years ago!
