Request for Information
Tracking
Requests for information (RFIs) are generated by members of the project team. They can be questions regarding coordination issues, or requests for clarification about the contract documents. The General Contractor creates an RFI and forwards it to the Architect. The architect then answers the RFI and returns it to the General Contractor. The General Contractor then routes the information to the necessary parties.
The success of a project hinges on having the required information in a timely fashion. When information is delayed, the project can be delayed. Therefore, it is critical that all parties respond to such requests in a timely fashion.
With the RFI tracking log exhibiting the dates of submission and response, everyone is aware of the document status.
Such a log also reduces the risk carried by the General Contractor; if the Subcontractor and Vendors are responsible for the material on the project site, then they are immediately responsible for any changes or clarifications that may occur.
