A smart card is a credit-card sized plastic card with an embedded computer chip. There are two approaches to the internal chip design of a smart card. The chip can either be a microprocessor with built in memory or simply a data chip that has static information on it. This chip is then read via physical or IR means and the terminal becomes a customized system to that user.
