-
IP
packet technology telephony may be the future direction but current trials
are using existing circuit switched technology.
-
AT&T
expects broadband technology to allow the convergence of TV, data and
telephony services to create a more cost effective network infrastructure
that offers more robust service offerings than today’s telephone, ISP, OSP
model.
-
Consumers
who use cable telephony will have tremendous freedom to tailor services to
their exact needs coupled with the flexibility and ability to modify the
services via an electronic ordering platform (whether over the internet or a
Cable TV set-top device).
-
The
original excitement regarding cable telephony is being tempered by
regulatory and technology-based issues. However, cable companies are
actively pursuing solutions to these issues by lobbying the FCC and through
extensive R&D.
