Welcome to our ET (Emerging Technology) Project for Patterns of Electronic Commerce taught by Professor Benn Konsynski in Emory University's Goizueta School of Business. Gerald Kresta, Matthew McGovern, Kelly Orman and John Verbeke have constructed an Executive Briefing on Cable Telephony Technology. In short, Cable Telephony Technology is the convergence of two existing technologies and public network infrastructures into one. Cable TV operators are working to upgrade and leverage their "broadband" fiber-optic/coaxial networks to offer enhanced telephony services, high-speed internet services and digital cable televisions to consumers. These services would be transmitted into the home on a single wire and be billed on a single bill. As an example, AT&T understands the capability and competitive advantage that the Cable TV operators have over other utilities. The company has acquired and partnered with numerous key Cable TV providers like TCI (acquisition) and Time Warner (partnership). Over a period of 18 months, AT&T has entered the Cable TV market by storm and is one of the largest players in the United States. In fact, if the acquisition of MediaOne is completed, AT&T will be the largest Cable TV operator in the country.
