Entertainment

Of all the uses for virtual reality, the most prevalent today would be those in the entertainment field. The technology of VR is most used by amusement parks or video arcade establishments such as Dave & Busters. From the low-end desktop applications like flight simulators, to the high-end games where users wear full-body neoprene suits and helmets, virtual reality within the entertainment industry is booming.

Within the next few years, this high-end technology will be available to consumers as prices decrease. Consumer electronics in the home from today’s PlayStations to televisions will be integrated with VR applications. For example, you may be at home watching a baseball game on your big screen television, when you decide to get some extra-sensory looks at the game. At the push of a button, your tv will project a hologram of the players in the field, or if you so desire, the batter at the plate in full virtual reality. This hologram image will pop up in your living room and you could then see from any angle how the batter swings, misses or otherwise scratches himself—all in 3D!
