The VRD user looks at a small hand-held or head worn device. This device directs a pinpoint beam of laser light into the eye. The viewer sees a high-resolution, full-color, animated image which appears to be about an arm's length away. This is similar to looking at a 14-inch video monitor while seated a desk, but instead of the image being on the screen, the image is actually on the viewer's retina.
In the occluded or fully inclusive mode, the image appears against an opaque background. In augmented or see-through mode, it is possible to see-through the image to the viewer's environment. All of this is possible outdoors on even the brightest of days.
