Officers

Brii

Name: Brianne Rivera
Year: Junior
Major: Women's Studies/Pre-Medicine
Hometown: New York
Position: Co-President
Contact: bariver@emory.edu

Upon entering college I realized the importance of Pride organizations on college campuses. Pride provides a unique judgment-free setting for all types individuals. I love that about Pride, it motivates me promote a community within Emory Pride to make this organization more available to all Emory students. As the president of Oxford College's Pride organization I realized my love for planning events and creating a safe and accepting environment for LGBTQIA students on campus. This love is what called me to become a part of Emory Pride and I know that along with this year's executive board we can continue to foster an organization and a campus where everyone feels comfortable to be themselves.

Kovonn

Name: Kovonn Tanner
Year: Senior
Major: Political Science and Philosophy
Hometown: Due West, South Carolina
Position: Co-President
Contact: mktanne@emory.edu

Early on, I realized I had a propensity for leadership and a desire to set a positive example for not only meself and younger siblings, but for my community. Growing up,  I was able to develop my abilities through sports, academics and community activities. Although I contributed (and grew in the process), I felt as though I was capable of effecting more positive change, but simply had not done so. Here at Emory, Pride has allowed me to fufill this niche while introducing me to outstanding members of the community and helping me learn more about LGBT history and less-advertised (but equally important) issues. As co-president, I hope to help create a more united LGBT community while raising awareness of these concerns.

Shu Wen

Name: Shu Wen Ong
Year: Junior
Major: English and Psychology
Hometown: Singapore
Position: Public Relations
Contact: song3@emory.edu

Joining Emory Pride has been one of the best decisions I made coming to Emory. Other Good Decisions included not taking PSYC 230 in freshman year, and keeping a stash of coffee in my room. As PR representative of Emory Pride, I want to let more people on campus know about us and what we do, in the hopes of increasing both our membership and general awareness about LGBT issues.

Liz Reynolds

Name: Liz Renyolds
Year: Sophomore
Major: International Studies, Women's Studies
Hometown: Fargo, ND
Position: Secretary
Contact: eareyno@emory.edu

Growing up, I always seemed to be drawn to the LGBT community; however, living in North Dakota didn't provide many opportunities to educate or advocate for the queer community. When I came to Emory, I joined Pride and not only was I able to understand and become more comfortable with myself, but I was able to connect with people who were going through the same things I was. To me, Emory Pride has become my favorite part of school. As a result, I wanted to be more involved with the group on campus in order to reach out to more people.

Brandon

Name: Brandon Lawler
Year: Sophomore
Major: History
Hometown: Charlotte, North Carolina
Position: Treasurer
Contact: blawler@emory.edu

As someone who enjoys leadership roles, joining the Emory Pride team seemed natural. As treasurer, I intend to make Emory Pride better through fundraising and using our finances to create the best experience for the LGBTQ youth of Emory University. While not studying, I like to read books about the history of the House of Representatives and continue cultivating the world's largest collection of Barbara Streisand memorabilia.
