LGBT Essay Contest

The Office of LGBT Life, Emory Gay and Lesbian Alumni (Emory GALA), and Studies in Sexuality Programs offer an annual lgbt essay contest for undergraduate and graduate students, with a $500 prize in the graduate division and a $250 prize for the winning undergraduate entry.

Awards are presented annually by President Wagner at the Pride Banquet. The essays are judged by lgbt faculty members.

To be eligible, work must have been completed between January 1 and December 31 of the previous year, for a course (or as part of a thesis or dissertation) at Emory.  Graduate essays or dissertation/thesis chapters of 15-35 pages, and undergraduate essays or thesis chapters of 10-20 pages, on any topic in LGBT/Queer Studies, will be considered.

Submissions will be accepted from January 15 to February 13, 2009.

Submissions are due by 5:00 PM on February 13, 2009. E-mail to lgbt@emory.edu, mail to Office of LGBT Life, P.O. Box 24075, Campus, or drop off at the Office of LGBT Life, Room 246E, Dobbs University Center (DUC).
(If mailing from off-campus, mail to Emory Office of LGBT Life, P.O. Box 24075, Atlanta, GA 30322.)

Unless you are emailing, submit three (3) copies of the essay. The title page should be separable from the rest of the essay. On the title page, give the title of the essay and the author's name and contact information (phone number and email address). On the first page of the essay, give the title again, and also include the name and number of the course for which it was written, or the title of the dissertation or thesis of which it is a part along with the name of the department.
