LGBT Programming Board
Purpose
The LGBT Programming Board is a group of Emory students (undergraduate and graduate) who plan and implement events supporting the mission of the Office of LGBT Life, including LGBT History Month (October), National Coming Out Day, Transgender Remembrance Day, Day of Silence, etc. The Board also assists with the annual Pride Awards.
Goals
The work of the Programming Board furthers the following goals:
- Increase awareness of the issues facing people of varying gender identities and sexualities on campus.
- Encourage the examination of the differences (age, race, religion, economic status, etc.) among people who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, etc.
- Create and foster a sense of community among undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Develop leadership skills among students.
Structure
- The Board includes representatives from the undergraduate and graduate student bodies. Students of all gender identities and sexualities are encouraged to apply.
- The Board receives funding and logistical support from the Office of LGBT Life, and will seek funds and/or support from other departments.
- The Office of LGBT Life will appoint five Co-Chairs to the Board annually. These Co-Chairs serve a minimum of one academic year, and may choose to reapply for one or more additional years. Appointments run from January 1 through December 31.
- Other interested students are encouraged to participate as “program volunteers”. These volunteers can join at any point during the school year, and do not require official appointments.
