Matt Garrett
Matt Garrett is the Assistant Director in the Office of Student Leadership & Service and has been at Emory since June 2008. In his official capacity, he works primarily with the Student Programming Council to put on all of Emory’s major student events – Homecoming Week, Dooley’s Week, Concerts, Band Parties, and many others. He is also responsible for assisting with all Emory student organizations, registration, training, and resources for student leaders. He is also the co-director of the Emerging Leader Experience and The L.E.A.D. Team. Outside of his official capacity, Matt is a member of the Emory Facilitators Network, is an Emory University Community Facilitator, and serves as the Co-Chair Elect of the President’s Commission on Sexuality, Gender Diversity, and Queer Equality.
Hailing from rural South Georgia – Ashburn to be exact – Matt attended the University of Georgia and has a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business, and a Master of Education in College Student Affairs Administration. He truly loves the work that he gets to do - engaging students in dialogues about any range of issues in a variety of different locales (sometimes in a formal dialogue discussion group, and sometimes while setting up for a concert). |

Joe O’Geen
Joe O'Geen is a member of Emory's class of 2010 and is in pursuit of a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Studies with a Spanish minor. In addition Joe is pre-dental and plans to attend dental school in order to pursue a career in general dentistry. Joe is a native of North Carolina (go Tar Heels!), yet considers Atlanta home. His high school alma mater was Pace Academy.
In addition to being the Vice President of EASDA (Emory's American Student Dental Association), Joe is an Emory Blue and Gold Tour Guide, Orientation Captain for 2009, member of the fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon, as well as a part of a few other organizations on campus. A part from his involvement with Emory organizations, Joe loves to run, listen to various genres of music, cook, watch movies, and explore Atlanta.
Joe is passionate about life at Emory and is not afraid to share this passion with his peers and prospective students. |

John Lynch
John W. Lynch is an Area Director in the Residence Life and Housing department at Emory University and is responsible for the Second Year at Emory (SYE) program. He received his Master of Arts in College Student Personnel at the University of Maryland and Bacholor degree from The University of Georgia. He is the Region III representative for the GLBT Knowledge Community of National Association of Student Personnel Aministrators. |

Aby Parsons
Aby grew up in Bristol, England, and earned a BA in American Studies and MA by Research in U.S. Women’s Literature at the University of Central Lancashire. Aby came to Emory in 2008 to join the Department of Women’s Studies as a PhD student, with research interests in lesbian history and culture, and feminist film and literary theory. She currently serves as a graduate assistant in the Department of Film Studies, and is a student member of the President’s Commission on the Status of Women. Outside of Emory, Aby volunteers with the DeKalb Rape Crisis Center, and, in the spare time she has left, enjoys running, spinning, swimming, hiking, camping, and playing guitar. She lives in Decatur with her partner, Kal.

Michael D. Shutt
Michael D. Shutt is the Assistant Dean for Campus Life and Director of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Life at Emory University. He started in his position at Emory in June 2008. Originally from Angola, Indiana, he received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Public Administration from Michigan State University and his Doctorate of Student Affairs Administration from the University of Georgia.
Michael began his work at Emory after eight years of service at the University of Georgia. At UGA he served in two different roles, Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Health Educator (2000-2005) and Director of the LGBT Resource Center (2005-2008). As the founding director of UGA’s LGBT Center, Michael worked with campus administrators to change the campus climate for the queer community. His collaborative work with students, faculty, staff, and campus administrators yielded positive results including a new nondiscrimination/anti-harassment policy for the University; domestic partner benefits for students, faculty and staff; a successful Safe Space program; the establishment of the first and only LGBT Resource Center at a public institution in the State of Georgia; and the creation of a paid staff member to direct the Center.
Michael's academic and training interests include areas of college student health and wellness; sexual and gender identity development, and social justice.

Elizabeth E lkins
Elizabeth is the Assistant Director of the Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Life at Emory University. She received her Master of Mass Communication from the University of Georgia and her Bachelor of Arts from Emory University. She also coordinates the LGBT Leaders Group, and manages publicity and marketing for the Office. Within the Division of Campus Life, she serves as Advisor to the Media Council, Chair of the Campus Life Marketing Committee and as a member (former Chair) of the Staff Development Committee.
