Dean's Message on Pakistani Tragedy

December 18, 2014

Dear Emory Community,

In this time of tragedy, we extend our deepest sympathy to all members of the Emory community affected by the recent and horrific terrorist attacks at the Peshawar Army Public School and College in Pakistan.

Please know that you do not have to face these challenges alone. As part of a caring community, we are committed to uplifting our neighbors in such circumstances. We offer our support, which comes in many forms.

Emory provides a number of resources to help members of our community cope with crisis, including Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), which offers confidential individual and group counseling to students. The CAPS phone number is 404.727.7450, and a hyperlink to the web page is embedded in the above text.

The Office of Spiritual and Religious Life also offers support as part of its role in maintaining a religious, spiritual, ethical, and moral presence throughout our university community. On the organization’s website, you can access a list of worship and meditation sessions, as well as staff contact information.

Student Intervention Services, a team of trained professionals who coordinate the university’s response to students in distress, provides resources and support. You can reach the office 404.430.1120 or through a referral form on their website.

The Office of International Student Life offers a welcoming, open, and centralized environment where all Emory international students can become engaged in Campus Life opportunities and share any questions or concerns that they may have. The office can be reached at 404.727.1078 or online.

Many students, faculty, and staff will be joining together after the winter break to plan a vigil in memory of the Pakistani people and others most affected by this tragedy. If you would like to be involved in these efforts, please reach out to Natalie Cruz in the Office of International Student Life at natalie.cruz@emory.edu.

Once again, we offer our profound condolences and hope that you find support and comfort in our community and utilize, as you deem appropriate, the resources mentioned above.

Sincerely,

Ajay Nair
Senior Vice President and Dean of Campus Life
