The focus of this site is on using Java, JavaScript, Frames, and Tables to build medical image viewers for remote reading of patient scans.

Please Note: I no longer work for Emory University and I no longer work in medical imaging. I continue to collaborate with my friends here at Emory. They have been kind enough to allow me to maintain my e-mail and web space here. Most of the applets below still work, but they're prehistoric (1996), so don't expect too much.

What I'm Doing Now...

Now, I spend most of my time on a new child law and policy clinic here at Emory that I started with my wife and friends. I also maintain the web databases that I built for non-profit Information and Referral agencies some years ago. In my spare time I am finishing up the PhD program in Biostatistics at Emory.

Radiology

Grayscale Image Viewer (Java)
Demonstrates Window/Level and Zoom/Pan capabilities.
- An X-Ray of a Hand (23KB)
- A 3D Skull made from CT scan data (10KB)
- A high-resolution Cervical X-Ray (154KB)
- An 11-bit Chest CT Scan (105KB+94KB)
  Uses my new 32-bit viewer that can reassemble multiple 8-bit images. It then uses ImageFilters to window 8-bits from the full 32-bit deep image on the fly. (Sorry, but I think it crashes anything but Unix)

- A 12-bit Cervical X-Ray (22KB+27KB)
Image Fusion using the Alpha Channel (Java)
The alpha channel works great in the Java API. This applet uses it for interactive overlays of functional images on the anatomy.

Nuclear Medicine

3D Interactive SPECT Bullseyes (Java)
PET Patient Review Samples (decaf, frames)
These review screens are generated by a daemon that converts all patient data from our PET scanner to HTML and JPEG automagically. The scans are then read by our physicians (over modem or intranet) from our internal web site. We have 700 patient scans (using 160MB of disk space) on the web site for 1996.

Time vs. Activity within user-drawn ROI (Java)
Interactive regions of interest can be done in Java.
Stress Attenuation Study
Don't assume that the liver and diaphragm (the two biggest attenuators in cardiac studies) are stationary. During stress they may move down (inferior) as much as 4 cm.! This has serious implications for both PET and SPECT (even without attenuation correction).
FDG Normals
Analysis of resting FDG data from 16 normal patients.
