IV. Summary
By assembling this database we have come one step closer to answering the questions
posed in the introduction :
- We found that 30% of our patients' bodies extended beyond our FOV,
making this a serious problem that must be addressed if we are to implement
any of the attenuation smoothing techniques.
- We found an average variation in lung AC of 18% that could
have serious implications.
- We found patients with chest wall thicknesses below our system's
reconstructed resolution.
- We found that the LV shifts 6.4 mm on average under dipyridamole
stress.
This database is the primary tool that we will use to evaluate the performance of new PET
and SPECT attenuation correction algorithms. From this database we can derive
average models of groups of patients, but, more importantly, we can also look for
anatomical artifacts that could change a diagnosis and estimate the likelihood of
these problems occuring.
