Command Staff Changeover Marks Annual Transition
Posted May 22, 2008
On April 15th, in a tradition that has occurred every year since the inception of Emory EMS, the outgoing Command Staff and the incoming Command Staff held a ceremony to mark the changing leadership of the unit. At exactly midnight, keys were handed to the new staff, as well as pagers, radios and badges, marking them as the newest leaders of Emory EMS. Outgoing Chief of EMS, Joshua Rozell, gave a short speech, thanking the outgoing staff for their dedication and welcoming the incoming staff to a job which he characterized as difficult, but well worth the challenge. Kevin Smith, the new Chief of EMS, also said a few words, welcoming his new staff and thanking the outgoing staff for their dedicated service this year. The new Command Staff looks forward to taking up the challenges of leading Emory EMS and plans to maintain the tradition of excellence set by the previous staff.

Emory EMS Reaches Out to Emory Sororities to Promote Alcohol Awareness
Posted March 19, 2008
On Tuesday, March 4, Emory EMS medics partnered with the Sigma Delta Tau sorority to provide an alcohol awareness program to approximately thirty chapter members. The program was coordinated by the EEMS Training Division and leaders of SDT and focused on the highlighting the negative effects of alcohol poisoning and proper alcohol awareness. EEMS provided each chapter member with a hand-out highlighting important alcohol awareness facts and quick tips on what to do in case a friend is suspected of having alcohol poisoning. In addition, EEMS medics demonstrated how to place a friend who has become sick into the lateral recumbent, or recovery, position. EEMS medics also fielded questions and comments from chapter members about alcohol awareness and prevention. After the program, Leesa Haspel, New Member Educator for SDT said, “This visit from the EMS staff taught our sisters and New Members how to recognize and deal with an emergency situation…actually getting to see hands on how to interact with a person suffering from alcohol poisoning was great, as was hearing some of the warning signs.”
