Emory EMS EMT Course

Each academic year, EEMS offers an EMT course. The course is not for college credit, but it does provide students the opportunity to become certified by the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT). Georgia is continuing to transition to the new National Scope of Practice. The 2012-2013 Emory EMT Course will follow the guidelines for these new levels of certifcation and licensure, so our students will be trained to the levels of EMT and AEMT. Please visit the Georgia Office of EMS website for more information about the new Georgia scope of practice and levels of licensure.

11-12 Staff

In the EMT Course, students learn life-saving patient care skills through both classroom and clinical experience. The course runs from August to April and follows the undergraduate academic calendar. In recent years, classes have been held two nights per week (Monday and Thursday, 6-10pm) with one or two 8-hour Saturdays per month on Emory's main campus. In addition to classroom hours, the students complete dozens of clinical hours with top EMS departments and hospitals in the metropolitan Atlanta area. Upon successful completion of the course and receipt of NREMT Certification, program graduates are eligible to apply for Georgia licensure.

Please note that the Emory EMT Course is only open to current Emory students and affiliates.
