- Long Spine Board: this device is used to maintain the spinal column in an inline position and allow for patient transport without causing further injury to the spine
- Cervical Collar: this device is placed around the patient's neck and provides a 50% decrease in mobility of the cervical vertebrae, thus preventing further damage to the patient's spinal cord during extrication and transport
Automatic Suction

- Suction Pump: this device is used for clearing a patient's airway of fluids, debris or other materials which might create obstructions
Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Automated External Defibrillator: this is a critical piece of equipment which can be used in both emergency and non-emergency situations; in non-emergency situations, the AED provides a display of a patient's heart rhythm, allowing paramedics to analyze it for any abnormalities; in the emergency situation of a cardiac arrest, the AED can analyze the rhythm for the responding medic, determine whether a shock is advised and then automatically deliver the shock to the patient
Stabilization and Transport Equipment
- Kendricks Extrication Device (KED): this device is used to maintain spinal immobilization in a stable patient, in order to extricate them from a vehicle involved in a motor vehicle collision
- Stair Chair: this device is used to transport a patient who can maintain an upright position and needs transport up or down a flight of stairs to reach an ambulance
- Scoop Stretcher: this device is used to stabilize a patient who has a pelvic fracture or who is in a position where it would be difficult to log-roll them properly to place them on a long spine board; the stretcher works by separating into two halves which can be placed on either side of a supine patient and then joined, creating a frame for lifting and carrying the patient
- Traction Splint: in the unique instance in which a patient has a closed, mid-thigh femur fracture, this device is used to pull traction on the thigh, making the patient more comfortable for transport to the hospital
Burn Kit
- Water Gel Burn Dressing: these dressings are coated with a gel which seals and protects the burn until it can be treated in the hospital setting
- Burn Towel Dressing: used to cover the burn and protect it from exposure to pathogens in the air during transport
- Burn Bandage Roll
- Burn Sheet: a sheet used to cover the burn victim and prevent heat loss from the wound sites
- Normal Saline (1000 mL): used to increase the moisture in certain types of burns, preventing the loss of fluid which is common in burn victims
