Georgia Certification
To work for Emory EMS, each medic must be a licensed EMT-I or higher in Georgia. To obtain this license, you must submit Form C-08-A: In-State License Request
to the Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR). There are several
important points to note regarding this form:
-
The address you put on this form should not be your address on campus. Use your home (permanent) address so that all EMS-related mail will be sure to reach you if your campus address changes.
-
You must include a money order with this form in the amount of $50.00. A personal check is not sufficient.
-
A criminal background check must be completed and submitted along with this form. The Emory University Police Department has agreed to perform this background check at no charge for all students who have completed the
Emory EMS EMT Class.- Please speak with the receptionist in the Police Department, state that you are from the EMT Class, and he/she will submit your request for a background check. Please note that a background check takes approximately two weeks to complete, so please submit your request as soon as possible.
Once you have gathered all of the required materials for the application, submit it to:
Office of EMS
Attn: Personnel Licensure
2600 Skyland Dr. – Lower Level
Atlanta, GA 30319
Remember, your application will need to be processed, so receipt of your Georgia EMT-I license may take several weeks. When you receive your Georgia license, please e-mail your certification number to EEMSTraining@learnlink.emory.edu.
Out-of-State Reciprocity
To work in another state, it is necessary to repeat a similar process in accordance with your respective state’s rules and regulations. Each state’s process works somewhat differently, but all have an Office of EMS which can provide the details of the procedure. However, to apply for reciprocity, you must hold National Registry certification. Below is a document prepared by the National Paramedic Institute that contains the addresses and web sites of every state’s Office of EMS. By visiting the site of the state in which you would like to work, you should be able to find the forms that will allow you to apply for licensure.
