Summer 2010: Campaign Chronicle
Katz Foundation Supports Emory Health Sciences
During the past three years, the Abraham J. and Phyllis Katz Foundation has committed nearly $700,000 to the health sciences at Emory. Of that, $320,000 is facilitating the work of Jeff Boatright of the Emory Eye Center, who is seeking ways to slow progression of eye diseases such as glaucoma and retinal degenerations.
Another $320,000 will be given to fund Emory’s first fellowship in preventive cardiology and to support the educational community program, Heartwise, both under the leadership of Emory cardiologist Larry Sperling. A gift of $50,000 will support the work of Assistant Professor of Pediatrics Veda Johnson to develop school-based clinics in urban communities.
The foundation also has given $150,000 to Emory’s Chamber Music Society.
