For the past several years, the fastest woman in the world has trained at the George W. Woodruff Physical Education Center. A Decatur native, Gwen Torrence won a gold medal in the 200 meters at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona and a gold medal in the 100 meters at the 1995 World Championships in Goteborg, Sweden. She is a favorite to win the 100-meter gold medal at the Centennial Games in Atlanta this summer.
