Famed Handel & Haydn Society to present concert

The Handel & Haydn Society, a premier chorus and period orchestra and a leader in the "Historically Informed Performance," will present a concert at Emory at 8:15 p.m., Feb. 26, in Glenn Memorial Auditorium.

Under the direction of Christopher Hogwood and specializing in baroque and classical music, the musicians play on the instruments of the period to reveal the music as it was intended to be heard. Founded in Boston in 1815, the society is the country's oldest continuously performing arts group. The ensemble has achieved national and international recognition through its recordings, national broadcasts and performances at venues such as Lincoln Center, Tanglewood and Worcester's Mechanics Hall.

The program will include Bach's Brandenburg #4 in G Major, BWV 1049 and his Missa Brevis in G minor, BWV 235; as well as Handel's Sonata in G minor and Dixit Dominus in G minor. The concert is part of Emory's Flora Glenn Candler International Artists Series. Tickets are $12.
