Women's basketball headed for the nationals
For the first time in school history, Emory has been selected for the
NCAA
Division III national women's basketball tournament. The Eagles, ranked
No. 2
in the South region, begin tournament play this Wednesday, March 1. The
opponent and location had not been announced at press time. If Emory wins
Wednesday, they will advance to the next round on Saturday, March 4. The
regional finals are Friday, March 10, followed by the sectional finals
Saturday, March 11, and the final four March 17-18. Emory set a school
record
with 18 wins, heading into the regular-season finale, and was ranked in
the top
15 nationally by three basketball publications. The Eagles compiled their
best
ever University Athletic Association record at 11-3, including a 62-47
win
against Rochester (N.Y.) Feb. 17. Freshman Alicia Moore of Palm Bay, Fla.
(pictured right), led Emory in that game with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Women's basketball becomes the 16th of Emory's 17 varsity sports to
qualify for
an NCAA national championship since 1990.
