McMaster named Candler's director of advanced studies

Belle Miller McMaster has been named director of advanced studies at Candler School of Theology effective Jan. 1. McMaster, who currently serves as acting director of Candler's Program for Women in Theology and Ministry, will oversee Candler's doctor of ministry and doctor of theology in pastoral counseling degree programs in her new role. Beginning with the 1995-96 academic year, administration of the master of theology degree program will be moved to the advanced studies office.

"Dr. McMaster brings superb administrative skills and a deep love and appreciation for the church to her work. She will help Candler provide the best post-M.Div. training possible anywhere in the United States," said Candler Dean R. Kevin LaGree.

Before coming to Candler, McMaster served as director of the Social Justice and Peacemaking Unit of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). She has served in various administrative positions with the Presbyterian Church since 1974. Currently vice president of the National Council of Churches in Christ, McMaster also is chairperson of that body's Church and World Service Witness Committee. She is a member of the World Council of Churches' Unit on Justice, Peace and Creation and a board member of the Ecumenical Development Corporation (U.S.A.).
