President Chace makes a clean commute to campus
President Bill Chace did his part for traffic reduction and environmental
protection on Bike-to-Work Day held May 16. As he often does, Chace
commuted to
work by riding his bicycle from Lullwater to the Administration Building.
Bike-to-Work Day was part of Clean Commute Week activities held May 15-19
throughout metro Atlanta to encourage people to use commuting methods
other
than driving alone. Emory Parking and Community Services (EPCS)
participated in
the event by giving free MARTA passes to 100 Emory employees for
unlimited
MARTA rides on Clean Commute Day (May 18), recognizing active carpoolers
and
offering reserved parking for trial carpoolers on May 18, offering free
use of
P.E. Center locker room facilities for employees bicycling to work on May
16,
and providing free coffee and juice for employees who walked or rode
motorcycles to work any morning during Clean Commute Week. Clean Commute
Day is
organized annually by the American Lung Association with the support and
assistance of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. Last month's activities
marked
the sixth annual Clean Commute Day for the 20-county metro Atlanta area.
