Do you think the separation of church and state in schools has been taken to extremes?

April Garrett
Former assistant director of student activities
"Yes. I think that religious freedom is important in this country. Just because I'm a Christian does not mean that everyone will feel comfortable worshiping my deity, but it's important for people to have the option of worshiping or respecting whatever deity or not if they choose to. It's important for people to be able to recognize whatever diety--whatever is life affirming."

"I think so, because in the beginning it was all incorporated together. Now society is losing a lot of its moral obligations and it's trying to separate them so much to the point that it doesn't feel church should be incorporated into anything else, and really it's the backbone of the country."

"Pretty much my opinion is that, no, it's not taken to extremes. It's swung back to the other side. In an attempt to regulate it, they've done the opposite."

"Not in any way. As our founding fathers clearly saw, the two spheres of our lives have no place within the bounds of one another. Religious intole-rance has been the cause of many troubles and if religion were to be practiced in school the majority would likely try to use government as a bully pulpit to force their views on others."

"I've never really been affected by it that much. We said the pledge and I've never been offended by it."
