Fishburne Building razed for shuttle road, business school

The demolition of the Fishburne Building and Annex A should be complete by the end of the week, according to Ken Crellen, project manager in Campus Planning and Construction. The buildings were dismantled to make way for the latest addition to the campus shuttle parkway and for the new Goizueta Business School building. A portion of Annex B has been dismantled, but the majority of the building will remain. Crellen said the new Mizell Drive bridge between the Rich Building and Glenn Memorial Church should be completed by late March. At that time, the focus of construction activity will move from the bridge area up Fishburne Drive. Crellen said the shift will require some kind of rerouting of Fishburne parking deck traffic, which could mean the elimination of the small parking lot in front of the Fishburne Building by the end of March; the specifics of the rerouting will be determined later this month. Constructed in the 1920s, the Fishburne Building housed the Division of Educational Studies and the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science until their move to the North Decatur Building in January. Crellen said the new portion of the shuttle parkway should be open to traffic by Commencement on May 8. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new business school building will be held Thursday, April 6, and construction will begin after Commencement.
