Surplus Property offers three vehicles for sale

The Surplus Property Program invites all Emory community members to place bids on three vehicles currently for sale.

Vehicles for sale include:

*A 1982 Ford Escort station wagon in good running condition, white with blue interior. Minimum bid: $350. Vehicle no. 302.

*A 1980 Chevrolet Sport passenger van. White with blue/gray interior. Two individual seats plus two full-size seats. Two doors, plus sliding side door and full doors on back. Body needs work. Transmission warms up slowly; takes two to five minutes to shift into reverse, does not have much power in reverse. Has good pickup in drive. Minimum bid: $350. Vehicle no. 126.

*1974 Chevrolet Impala station wagon. Sand color with gold/gray interior. Overheats in five minutes; water pump or engine block is cracked. May have blown heads. Dead battery. Minimum bid: $200. Vehicle no. 37.

Bids are due by noon on Thursday, March 16. Bid forms are located in a zippered envelope attached to loading dock door 14 at Emory Surplus Property, 1762 Clifton Road (next to Human Resources). If the door is locked, slide completed bid form under the door. All three vehicles are parked in the Surplus Property lot.

The highest bidder will be notified the afternoon of March 16. The winner's cash, cashier's check or money order is due at Surplus Property by noon on Friday, March 17. For further information, call 727-4319.

Community invited to bicycling workshop

Faculty, staff and students are invited to a workshop exploring bicycling as a commuting option on Saturday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in 105 Geosciences.

Sponsored by Emory Parking and Community Services, the University Senate Committee on the Environment and the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign, the workshop also will explore the possibility of forming an Emory chapter of the Bicycle Users Group (BUG), an organization that advocates for improved conditions and accessibility for cycling.

The workshop is free, and pre-registration is required by Wednesday, March 15. Call 522-5525.

Seretean Center sponsors nutrition seminars

March is National Nutrition Month, and the Seretean Center for Health Promotion is sponsoring a series of Brown Bag Seminars on March 15, 22 and 30 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Rita Anne Rollins Room on the eighth floor of the Rollins Public Health Building. Lunch will not be provided, but sandwiches, salads, soup, yogurt and drinks are available at a small snack bar adjacent to the room where the presentations will be held. Seminar topics include "Eat Your Way to Good Health" (March 15); "Skin the Fat, Not the Flavor" (March 22); and "Making Sense of the New Food Label," (March 30). For more information, call John D. Arrington to address "new wave of conservatism"

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity is sponsoring a speech by Emory alumnus and Atlanta City Council President Marvin Arrington Sr. on Monday, March 20, at 7 p.m. in WHSCAB Auditorium. Arrington will speak about the "new wave of conservatism in America" and will discuss how the new political and social transition will affect urban areas in particular. Poussaint to deliver keynote diversity speech

Alvin Poussaint, author, psychiatrist and educator, will present the keynote address for Images of Diversity 1995, a week-long celebration of cultural diversity sponsored by the Diversity Issues Committee of the Student Programming Council. Currently clinical professor of psychiatry and faculty associate dean for student affairs at Harvard Medical School, Poussaint served as a script consultant to two television shows, "The Cosby Show" and "A Different World." Poussaint's lecture, "Multiculturalism: Education for the Future," will be held Tuesday, March 14, at 7 p.m. in WHSCAB Auditorium. A brief book signing will follow. Brittain Award nominations sought

Faculty and staff are invited to submit nominations for the Marion Luther Brittain Award, the University's highest student award for service to the institution. The award is given annually to an undergraduate who has performed the most "significant, meritorious and devoted service to Emory University."

Nominations should be submitted by Friday, March 24, via interoffice mail to Drawer PP, or to 401 Dobbs Center. Nomination forms are available from the Office of Campus Life in Dobbs Center. For further information, call 727-4364.
