Clinton to speak to Emory community

On Wednesday, March 29, President Bill Clinton will spend the day discussing the economy in Cannon Chapel with business leaders from around the Southeast. When that summit concludes, he will participate in an hour-long event in the Woodruff P.E. Center, "Clinton Speaks at Emory." President Bill Chace and SGA President-Elect Laura Sawyer also will participate. Tickets will be required for the event, and will be available to faculty, staff and students with an Emory I.D. on Monday morning at the Dobbs ticket desk. A ticket and an Emory I.D. must be shown for entrance to the event, tentatively scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Economic Summit will be held on March 29, tentatively set to run from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Four panels involving approximately 30 participants each, will be held. Clinton and Vice President Al Gore will participate in each of the panels; various cabinet members will rotate in and out depending on the subject being discussed. Approximately 5-8 members of Clinton's cabinet are expected to attend. Twelve "real story people" also will be present at the summit to share their own stories.

Business Professor Jeff Sonnenfeld and Chace have been invited to participate in the panels. Sonnenfeld, who met Clinton at the last two years' Renaissance Weekends, has presented a proposal to Clinton for the White House to develop a plan to utilize corporate CEOs, whom Sonnenfeld characterized as "an underutilized resource."

The Emory Young Democrats will be providing volunteer runners for the event which will be broadcast on C-SPAN and National Public Radio.

The Peavine visitor parking lot will be used on March 28 for participants and members of the media; it will be closed for other uses that day.
