Inauguration to cause parking reshuffle in Fishburne and Jones

Because of the parking needs of the 500 guests expected to attend the Wednesday, April 5, inauguration of President Bill Chace, faculty, staff and student parking in some areas near the quadrangle will be shifted to other areas for the day to accommodate inaugural guests.

Gary Hauk, secretary of the University, has sent a memo to community members who normally park in the Fishburne deck and in the lot behind Jones Center advising them of alternative parking arrangements that have been made for the day. "To accommodate the inaugural guests, we will need to use the Fishburne parking deck and the Jones Center lot," Hauk wrote. "This, we know, will inconvenience you greatly, and for that we apologize."

Employees and students who normally park in the Jones Center lot may park in either of the Peavine decks, and those who routinely park in Fishburne deck may park in the new Michael Street III deck, which has not yet opened for general use.

Campus shuttle route D is available for those parking at Peavine, which is within walking distance of the quadrangle. A special "Fishburne" shuttle will run from the Michael Street deck down Clifton Road, past Emory Hospital and back up Asbury Circle before returning to Michael Street. The shuttles will run from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on inauguration day, and the wait should never be longer than 10 minutes.

The inauguration ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. April 5. Hauk said that faculty are invited to march in the procession, and staff and students are encouraged to attend. Following the ceremony, a "block party" will be held at McDonough Field with music, food and entertainment.
