Annual Staff Fest activities slated

Staff members should keep their calendars clear on Thursday, May 11. This year's Staff Fest will be held on the quadrangle from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The theme for Staff Fest is "a brush of perfection," according to Yvette Hart, chair of the event. It was submitted by Lurene Leatherwood in the physics department. Along with the theme suggestion, Leatherwood submitted the artwork on which the Staff Fest t-shirt design is based.

The event's menu includes chicken breast sandwiches, red potato salad, coleslaw, oatmeal raisin cookies, ice cream and beverages.

"I think the day will be a lot of fun for everyone." said Hart. "We have several games planned, including a balloon toss, a tug-of-war and an egg toss." Door prizes will be awarded, including airline tickets to the location of the winner's choice. Entertainment will be provided by several live acts performing throughout the afternoon.

Staff members will also be able to show off their physical prowess at one of two events sponsored by the Employee Assistance and Wellness Programs and the Woodruff P.E. Center. The two-mile AppleFunRun will start at 10 a.m. in Lullwater Park. For the less hardy staffers, the one-mile AppleFunWalk will commence in Lullwater at 10:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for both the run and the walk, including complimentary P.E. center classes. To register for either event, call 727-WELL or register at Lullwater on Staff Fest morning at 9:30 a.m.

For those who want to show their spirit without working up a sweat, Staff Fest t-shirts are available April 28 for $5 at the following locations: The Carter Center, call Stephanie Schroeder, 420-5120; at Grady Hospital, call Teresa Hicks, 5-5156; at Oxford, call Ann Cargile, 4-8306; and at Emory Hospital, call Miriam Needham, 2-7200.
