Do you think Colin Powell should run for president as an independent candidate?

Jackie Harris
Sophomore
Political Science, English
"Well, not really, I think he should run as a Republican. If he runs as an independent he'll take votes from the Republican party, and I'd rather see a Republican in office much more so than a Democrat."

Ben Tran
Sophomore
Pre-Medicine, English
"Yes. I think Colin Powell should run for president to give us more choices. Since it's probably going to be the same guys running again--Bob Dole, Clinton."

John Wood
Professor
Anatomy and Cell Biology
"No. He should run as a Republican if at all. Because if he wants to run he should run to be elected, and he's unlikely to be elected as a Democrat."

Shirley Ho
Senior
Biology
"Yes. I think Colin Powell should run as an independent. I think although his views are mainly on the Republican side, they have many qualities of the Democrats. So I think he should go partyless and run that way."

Annette Buk-Swienty

"Yes. I think that would be interesting. For me [as a non-American], it'd be extremely interesting if he would run. I have been studying race and affirmative action. In light of the current debate, it would symbolize that black skin is not seen as a threat to white Americans. It would say a lot about the state of racism in America."
