Mason Guest House opens for
transplant patients and their families
Transplant candidates, recipients and their families now have an
affordable
place to stay near Emory during the transplantation process with the
opening
the Mason Guest House on Sept. 26. Attending the ceremony were (from

President for Health Affairs Charles R. Hatcher Jr., Center for
Transplantation
Director Jennie Perryman, CEO of Emory Hospitals John Henry, and Mason
Trust
Advisory Committee Chairman George Atkins. The Mason House, designed to
be a
retreat from the daily stresses of a medical environment, provides
low-cost
lodging for individuals who are awaiting an organ transplant or who have
had a
transplant. The house is available to transplant patients and families
from
Emory Hospital, Egleston Children's Hospital, Piedmont Hospital and St.
Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta. The Mason House, located in the University
Apartments Complex off Clairmont Road, is dedicated to the memory of
Marguerite
Fugazzi Mason, who created the Carlos and Marguerite Mason Trust in
memory of
her husband to advance organ transplantation in Georgia. The Mason Trust
contributed $1.355 million toward construction of the Mason Guest House,
which
includes laundry facilities, gathering rooms with television sets,
private
phones, VCRs, stereos and shuttle service to hospitals, doctor's offices
and
grocery stores.
