Moye named vice president for public affairs

As part of an effort for the University to take a more active role in garnering federal research support, President Bill Chace has appointed Steven Moye to the position of associate vice president for public affairs. Moye will assume the position on Oct. 1.

Moye, currently the director of legislative affairs for the American Forest and Paper Association (AFPA), will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive public affairs program that will encourage significant governmental understanding and support of Emory's goals and objectives. He also will represent Emory to federal, state and local governments and their agencies and inform the administration of pending and effective legislation at all government levels that could have an impact on Emory's mission, programs or policies.

"This new position will afford the University an opportunity to understand more directly, and influence more powerfully, changes in federal support of higher education," said Bill Fox, vice president for institutional advancement.

"Basically, my job will be to protect Emory's interests and to serve as an advocate at the federal level," Moye said.

In addition to Moye's experience with the AFPA, which represents approximately 450 companies, he also has served as senior legislative representative for the Southern Legislative Conference of the Council of State Governments, a non-profit advocacy organization focusing on federal and state legislative and regulatory issues. Moye received a bachelor's degree in political science from Georgia State University.
