Thompson breaks two records at Invitational

Emory junior Troy Thompson completed a triple play in track and field at the Emory Invitational April 13 when he won all three jumping events. Thompson was first in the high jump, long jump and triple jump, marking the second consecutive weekend that he achieved that sweep. In the process, Thompson broke two school records and turned in two qualifying performances for the NCAA Division III national championships. The Memphis, Tenn., resident leaped 2.09 meters (6 feet, 10 1/4 inches) in the high jump, which automatically qualified him for the NCAA nationals in that event and broke his school record. Thompson also set a record in the long jump with a provisional qualifying leap of 7.22 meters (23 feet, 8 1/4 inches). Earlier this spring, Thompson broke his school record and automatically qualified for the NCAA meet in the triple jump, where he is the defending national champion.
