Caller wants cover at Peavine deck entrance

At the new addition to the Peavine parking deck, you have to run your card through the entrance gate to open the gate. It's outside in the rain and the snow and everything. I don't know why they didn't put a cover on that when we have our windows rolled down and we're trying to get in.

Hospital employee confused about layoffs, expenditures

We just want to know why we're cutting approximately 150 full-time employees over the next 18 months, but spending $11 million on a building. Don't understand it, patients are going to suffer.
Name withheld, Emory Hospital

Editor's note: According to Mike Riordan, chief operating officer of Emory Hospital, renovations have begun as a response to patient and guest comments that "we have excellent patient care, but dark dingy facilities." Riordan also said that the hospital is looking to reduce the number of full-time equivalent (FTE) employees per occupied bed. "We currently have 6.3 FTEs per occupied bed, and other academic hospitals such as ours have achieved 6.0. We need to reduce our FTEs by 170 over the next 16 or 17 months. This should be achieved by normal turnover and not through layoffs. However, as in the past, we will continue to look at opportunities to consolidate and streamline work activities, and that may result in the elimination of some jobs." Riordan said that this is part of a larger cost-reduction plan to help the hospital compete more effectively in the market.
