No Emory Report on March 11

Emory Report will not be published on Monday, March 11, the week of Spring Break. The calendar listing in this issue runs through Sunday, March 17. Weekly publication will resume on Monday, March 18.

Faculty Town Hall to be held March 4

The Spring Faculty Town Hall Meeting will be held Monday, March 4, from 4:30-6 p.m. in Rooms 3 and 4 of Cox Hall on the third floor. President Bill Chace will be the featured speaker. His address, "Interdisciplinary Activities and the Changing Role of Academic Departments," will look at issues such as barriers to interdisciplinary teaching and research; incentives and support structures that would encourage and better manage interdisciplinary scholarship; interdisciplinary programs and faculty appointments; and balancing the interests and priorities of interdisciplinary concerns with established disciplines. The second half of the meeting will feature a panel including Provost Billy Frye and various faculty members who will answer questions from the floor.

Submissions welcomed

The purpose of the weekly "First Person" column is to generate conversation across disciplines and departments on campus, and Emory Report welcomes submissions of editorials from faculty and staff. Articles should address a topic of general interest to the Emory community and be 700-900 words in length. Articles may be edited for clarity and length.
