Annual celebration of Staff Fest to feature new menu, live music

With the theme of "Emory's Dream Team: Reaching Out to the World," the annual Staff Fest will take place on Thursday, May 16, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on the quadrangle.

The day's activities will begin at 10 a.m. with an Apple FunRun and FunWalk in Lullwater. Registration will be held at 9:30 a.m. in Lullwater. For more information, call 727-9355.

Activities on the quadrangle will include lunch, to be served from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., games, dancing, karaoke and live music by the band Freddy "D." Ever a favorite, the "electric slide" will be performed by employees from across the University. Tours of the Carlos Museum will be offered at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

According to Staff Fest Committee Chair Deborah Glenn of Facilities Management, employees this year will be "pleasantly surprised" by a new menu of shredded barbecue chicken, cole slaw, potato chips, ice cream and cookies. A vegetarian alternative will be available on request. A variety of door prizes will be awarded, with the grand prize of a $1,000 World Travel Partners Voucher (good for one trip) to be given away at 11:30 a.m. by President Bill Chace.

An Olympic Information Booth will be set up on the quadrangle, and information on the Olympic games and commuting options will be available. Olympic hopeful Phyllis Hines will provide employees with a glimpse into her quest for a place on the U.S. Olympic Cycling Team. Hines, a 33-year-old with a small child, retired in 1993 from a career that included four U.S. National Championships, silver and bronze medals in world time trial championships, and a victory at the 1989 Tour de France in the team division. Since her retirement, however, the time trial has become a women's Olympic event, and Hines returned to racing with the hopes of making the U.S. team.

Staff Fest T-shirts currently are on sale for $5 at a variety of locations around campus, including:
