Interdisciplinary faculty seminar set for next spring

The Center for Language, Literature and Culture, with the support of the Provost's Office, will sponsor an interdisciplinary seminar for faculty during spring semester 1997. Led by James Gustafson, Woodruff Professor of Comparative Studies and Religion, the seminar will meet weekly on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m.

The seminar will continue, at a scaled-down pace, the Luce Faculty Seminar program.

The subject of the seminar will be "Questions of Evidence." The text to be discussed--a portion each week--will be the collection of essays, Questions of Evidence: Proof, Practice and Persuasion Across the Disciplines, edited by James Chandler, Arnold I. Davidson and Harry Hartoonian (University of Chicago Press). Copies will be available in the Emory Bookstore in January.

Applications for the seminar are invited from all Emory faculty, including former participants in the Luce Seminar. Enrollment will be limited to 13 participants., selected in order to maximize diversity among fields. Participants will receive a stipend of $500 for research expenses related to the seminar.

Applications should be sent to Gustafson at the Department of Religion, Callaway Center, by Dec. 5. Selections will be announced by Dec. 14.
