Emory Clinic expands primary and specialty care to North Fulton

The Emory Clinic North, now beginning construction at the State Bridge Office Park near the Chattahoochee River, will be the largest, most comprehensive component of The Emory Clinic outside the main clinic facility on the Emory campus. The 80,000-square-foot, free-standing building is expected to be fully occupied and ready for patient care by late summer of 1997.

"Emory is committed to placing a world-class health care institution close to home for the residents and businesses of this new epicenter of Atlanta," said Michael M. E. Johns, executive vice president for health affairs and chief executive officer of the Emory University System of Health Care. "The Emory Clinic North will provide Emory quality with maximum convenience."

Rein Saral, director of The Emory Clinic, said, "The Emory Clinic North marks the first time we have moved a full range of our well known specialist physicians off campus and into the community." The Emory Clinic currently has 14 health center locations throughout metropolitan Atlanta with more than 100 primary care physicians and a small number of specialists who practice at some of these locations. But The Emory Clinic North will actually house more than 20 full-time specialists in addition to 15 primary care physicians.

The first floor will house physicians in family practice, obstetrics-gynecology, occupational medicine and pediatrics, as well as a full-service laboratory and dispensing pharmacy.

The second floor will house specialists in cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery and orthopaedics. Pending state health agency approval, The Emory Clinic North will have a cardiac catheterization laboratory and a full-service diagnosing imaging center, which will include magnetic resonance imaging, computerized tomography and nuclear medicine imaging.

The third floor will house specialists in dermatology, gastroenterology (including endoscopy services), medical oncology, otolaryngology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, psychiatry and urology.

A two-story, 400-car parking deck also is under construction, to be dedicated entirely to The Emory Clinic North. Emory has taken an option on adjacent property with an eye toward future expansion.
