Parking applications now available over the Web In addition to applying for next year's parking permits through the mail, Emory faculty and employees can now register on the web through the parking office home page, a new feature meant to ease the registration hassle. The parking registration page will be up until the due date, Dec. 27. To apply on the web, go to https://www.bursar.emory.edu/pkreg.html. Select the appropriate form and click on "Submit" after filling it out. Web applicants will then receive a confirmation number. Employees applying over the web should not mail in an application. "We registered students on the web during the summer and got a lot of favorable comments," said parking Director Bill Collier. "It was easy and customer-friendly. We just want to make the process more convenient." The web page also features the annual transportation survey, which helps the University plan commuter options as a member of the Partnership for a Smog-Free Georgia. The parking office encourages employees to carpool and ride MARTA, both of which are increasingly popular alternatives to single-occupant vehicle commuting. As announced last year, the rates for next year's parking have increased to a uniform $303 for Zone 1. Passes will cost $210 for Zone 2 and Emory Hospital staff parking, and $291 for students. The disparity in price between street and deck parking passes has now been eliminated after a three-year equalization process, which paralleled a decrease in street parking availability as new pedestrian walkways have been constructed. Any further yearly increases in the annual parking rate will be determined solely by rising expenses. "We don't anticipate next year's parking rates to increase significantly," Collier said. New hang tags and decals become effective Feb. 1, 2000. The due date for application is Dec. 27. Employees with Zone 1 regular passes should not discard their hangtags, which will be used for another year with new decals extending the passes' expiration date. (Zone 1 "Street" permits will be replaced by new permits enabling deck access). Hangtags will be available for all zones at the dates and locations below.
