Emory staff to celebrate 21st Staff Fest May 14 on Quadrangle

Spring has definitely sprung, and for Emory's employees that means it's time for Staff Fest '99. The event will celebrate its 21st anniversary when it kicks off Friday, May 14, on the Quadrangle.

This year's theme is "Building Excellence for the New Millenium." The theme was the brainchild of Mary Gelston in the Telecommunications department and will appear on official Staff Fest T-shirts.

More than 7,100 staff members took to the outdoors last year. This year planners are expecting more people and more fun. "Last year it was a great day and we had a great turn-out," said Kay Sutton, employee services manager in Human Resources and coordinator for Staff Fest '99. "It was our first year to get Corporate Sports involved in the entertainment, relays and games. Like Emory, Staff Fest has grown so much, we needed assistance in putting on an event to meet the expectations of our staff."

Last year was also the first year that members of the Emory Clinic staff joined in the festivities. This year the daylong celebration will welcome staff from Wesley Woods.

Staff Fest '99 will include door prizes, games and lots of entertainment. Tickets will be awarded at various events and can be exchanged for prizes. A co-ed volleyball tournament, a two-mile Apple FunRun and a one-mile Fun Walk will also take place during the day.

Hungry staffers can enjoy a menu of barbecued chicken, pasta and potato salad, beverages and dessert. Food tickets are required and may be obtained prior to Staff Fest from departmental HR representatives.

An event of this size also requires the hard work of volunteers. Anyone interested in donating an hour of time should contact event organizers no later than May 5. Make plans now to enjoy this day of fun, food and frolicking.
