ITD switching e-mail servers July 21-23

Beginning Friday, July 21, at 8 p.m., Information Technology Division will move all 27,000-plus e-mail accounts, messages and attachments on the Dooley/Eagle server to new hardware. The timeshare computing services and personal web pages will remain on the old hardware.

Dooley/Eagle e-mail services (including forwarding from Dooley/Eagle accounts) will be unavailable from that time until Monday, July 24, at 6 a.m. This migration will not affect the relay of mail to and from departmental mail servers or any of the First Class mail servers for the business and law schools or LearnLink.

This migration will not affect local settings and host name configurations. For instance, imap.service.emory.edu, pop3.service.emory.edu and smtp.service.emory.edu should still be used when configuring an e-mail client.

Users should delete unneeded e-mail messages and attachments before July 21 so that ITD doesn't have to use unnecessary space for them on the new server. Desktop Trash folders must be emptied to make sure deleted files are actually removed. To maintain the integrity of mail headers and folder structures, the Trash folder will be moved to the new hardware. Visit www.emory.edu/ITD/DEEM for information about specific e-mail clients and a complete listing of help contacts for faculty, staff and students.
