Chace addresses health care issues

Editor's note: See the related Human Resources column fromhis issue.

Dear EmoryCare and EmoryChoice members,

When we embarked on changing health care vendors in 1999, we certainly intended to improve the level of service. That is why we chose CIGNA and Aetna U.S. Healthcare, the vendors of choice for many of Atlanta's major employers. During negotiations, we were assured that these two organizations understood our needs and would exceed our expectations.

Unfortunately, that has not turned out to be the case, and many of you have experienced service-related problems.

Based on your responses, which we have read with care and distress, Human Resources has identified key issues and is working aggressively to resolve the problems. Drs. Johns and Saral have assured me they are aware of your concerns related to clinic access. Those concerns are now being addressed.

Your best interest remains paramount as we work toward resolving the situation.

Thank you for your continued patience, which, I trust, we will not be testing much longer.

President Bill Chace
