PCSM

By Stephanie Sonnenfeld ssonnen@emory.edu

Religion professor Thee Smith spoke to the President’s Commission on the Status of Minorities (PCSM) at its Nov. 26 meeting in 400 Administration.

Smith gave a presentation about the Faculty Diversity Council, which he chairs. Started earlier in the year, the council aims to facilitate diverse faculty recruitment, retention and development-—something the PCSM also hopes to achieve through its Strategic Plan for Diversity.

Members agreed to write a letter to Interim Provost Woody Hunter supporting the council. They discussed various issues facing both groups, such as goal implementation and promotion on campus.

In other business, chair Brenda Seiton said Pamela Denzmore-Nwagbara will be the PCSM liaison to the Employee Council and the President’s Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW). Seiton also said Nagueyalti Warren has been nominated as chair-elect, but additional nominations would be accepted.

Members said they will revisit student scholarships and faculty/staff development grants at the next meeting, when the proposal for the Strategic Plan will be reviewed prior to submission to President Bill Chace.

PCSM will meet again on Jan. 29 in 400 Administration at 3 p.m
